“Having boxed in school, the challenge was that I had to hold myself back and perform like someone with no real training” says Iqbal Khan on Sony SAB’s Yaadein

Sony SAB’s Yaadein continues to strike a chord with audiences by seamlessly blending heartfelt relationships, light-hearted moments and gripping medical cases. Just when the doctors at JBMMC Hospital think they’ve seen it all every new patient arrives with an unusual case that challenges their instincts and pushes them to think beyond the obvious. While Dr. Dev (Iqbal Khan) and his team unravel these medical puzzles on screen, the latest track throws an unexpected challenge his way, one that takes him out of the hospital and into the boxing ring, reviving memories of Iqbal’s own school days as a boxer.

Interestingly, this sequence brought back memories from Iqbal Khan’s school days, when boxing was more than just a hobby. Having trained in the heavyweight category in the sport, returning to the ring as an actor came with a completely different set of challenges. Since Dr. Dev wasn’t meant to look like a trained boxer, Iqbal had to hold back his natural instincts and movements consciously. Instead of showcasing polished punches and footwork, he had to make every move appear unfamiliar, making him a great actor.

Sharing his experience, Iqbal Khan, who essays the role of Dr. Dev, said, “Boxing was a huge part of my school life in the heavyweight category and I spent countless hours training and competing. So, when I heard about this sequence, I thought it would come naturally to me. But I quickly realised that acting in a boxing scene is actually much tougher than boxing for real. Normally, you’d prepare to make the moves look more convincing, but here I had to hold myself back and perform like someone with no real training. I actually had to unlearn boxing for this scene and it was a different kind of challenge, but one that I really enjoyed as an actor.”
