Director Reveals Nishant Dahiya Didn’t Audition for His Role in Mrs.

Sanya Malhotra and Nishant Dahiya’s latest film, Mrs., was released earlier this week and is already making waves, receiving heaps of love from fans and critics alike. The much-anticipated remake of the Malayalam cult classic The Great Indian Kitchen premiered on ZEE5, and has struck a chord with audiences with its beautiful story of marriage and gender expectations. Directed by Arati Kadav, the film dives deep into the harsh realities women face in their roles as wives and homemakers, as Richa (Malhotra) navigates the suffocating pressures of her new life after marriage.

But behind the scenes, the film also holds a casting surprise that’s adding to the buzz. Director Arati Kadav recently spilled the beans, revealing that Nishant Dahiya, who plays Richa’s husband Diwakar, didn’t audition for the role. In a candid conversation, director Arati Kadav revealed, “Nishant never auditioned for his role in Mrs.. Our casting director, Mukesh Chabbra, mentioned that he’s a great actor but he will not audition right now. However, we already had an audition clip of him from another film. I was actually set on him from the start, and we were convinced that he was the perfect fit for the character when we saw the audition clip.”

Mrs. film follows Richa (Sanya Malhotra), a young woman who, after an arranged marriage to Diwakar (Nishant Dahiya), finds herself trapped by traditional household expectations. As she focuses on cooking and meeting her in-laws’ demands, she realizes she’s sacrificing her dream of becoming a professional dancer, feeling increasingly suffocated and unheard.

Mrs. is currently streaming on ZEE5!
