Sumit Kaul joins Sony SAB’s Tenali Rama as the antagonist Girgit – plays a master of deception

Sony SAB’s beloved show Tenali Rama is set to return to television screens with a thrilling twist, introducing a new character, Girgit, played by the talented Sumit Kaul. Girgit is not just another antagonist; he is a complex character whose mastery of disguise, and cunning nature make him a significant challenge to the beloved courtier Tenali Rama.

Girgit’s brilliance lies in his uncanny ability to read human nature. Much like a chameleon, Girgit seamlessly morphs into his surroundings, employing his mastery of disguise to blend into any role, from a lowly servant to a noble courtier. This unparalleled talent for transformation makes him a shadowy figure, always a step ahead and nearly impossible to pin down.
Reflecting on the role, Sumit Kaul shares, “Girgit is a character unlike any I’ve played before—layered, strategic, and unpredictable. His ability to disguise himself and manipulate situations with sheer brilliance makes him a formidable adversary. The creative team has added intriguing details to Girgit’s look, like the chameleon tattoo and his symbolic glass eye, making him even more dynamic. He’s the kind of villain audiences will be drawn to, despite his dark nature, and I’m thrilled to bring him to life.”

What makes Girgit truly fascinating is his mastery of disguise. He can seamlessly transform into entirely different personas—a courtier, a servant, or a noble—making him almost impossible to identify. This chameleon-like ability allows him to infiltrate power structures and manipulate those around him, bending them to his will. Whether he’s hidden in plain sight or operating from the shadows, Girgit’s presence is always a threat.

Tenali Rama is back on Sony SAB every Monday to Saturday at 8:00 PM from this December
