“I remember flying kites all day long” Says Harsh Rajput

 

The start of the year brings a number of festivities with it as several communities across India celebrate various festivals. From Makar Sankranti and Pongal to Lohri, there’s no cutting down of celebrations along with that of the new year. The year has now started with the first festival of the year and that is Makarsankranti.

“The day of Makar Sankranti is full of energy and enthusiasm.Kite flying is one of the best and the most awaited times of childhood. We used to try to get away from everything and fly kites from early morning till evening. Roaming around the city, having all sorts of street food and competitions with friends is what this amazing time of the year is all about. I used to eat ladoos and all sweets all throughout day, going to my friend’s houses, neighbors and all relatives.” Recalls the Pishachini Star.

The festival which is widely celebrated across India marks the end of winter. In different parts of the country, Makar Sankranti is celebrated in different ways. People exchange sweets, take a dip in holy water, greet each other and many more. One of the most important aspects of Makar Sankranti is flying kites. Kids and adults both love to fly kites on this day and are excited well in advance for this. Colourful kites adorn the sky from morning to evening. It is a delight to see the sky on this day.
