“Prachand Dev ji to cause huge havoc in Bhimrao’s life”, says Govind Khatri of &TV’s Ek Mahanayak – Dr B.R. Ambedkar

Veteran actor Govind Khatri is now seen in &TV’s Ek Mahanayak – Dr B.R. Ambedkar as Prachand Dev Ji – a self-appointed guardian of the upper caste who believes himself next to God. In this candid chat, the actor talks about following the show even before joining the team, his newly introduced character, his previous roles and more. Excerpts from the interview:
How would you define your character of Prachand Dev Ji?
Prachand Dev Ji’s entry will bring a lot of troubles and challenges in young Bhimrao’s life. Somehow Bhimrao and his paths intervene, leading to huge ideological differences, with him plotting to cause huge havoc in Bhimrao’s life. Prachand Dev ji also finds a partner in Narrotam to fight against Bhimrao and his ideologies and resort to extreme humiliation and cruelty. Prachand Dev Ji’s actions are backed by his evil agenda. However, the extreme steps adopted by Prachand Dev will only strengthen Bhimrao to face these compelling situations boldly, bringing to fore his evolved vision, indomitable perseverance, and determination. The mayhem that Prachand Dev creates in Bhimrao’s life makes for an extremely emotional yet inspirational storyline for the viewers.
Were you following the show even before joining the team?
Ek Mahanayak – DR B.R. Ambedkar is one of the most well-known shows on Indian television right now and I have been watching it right from the beginning. Interestingly, I have been watching some of the earlier episodes again to understand the show better and as part of my preparation to essay the new character.
The show focuses on the life of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. How much have you known about his achievements before entering the show?
The life story of this extraordinary leader is known to everyone in India. Known as the Father of Indian Constitution, Babasaheb Ambedkar’s contributions as a social reformer, politician and jurist truly inspires everyone. The show highlights his indomitable perseverance, determination, and evolved vision and I am glad to be a part of this great show.
Any character that has stayed with you till date and changed you as a person?
I had the good fortune of playing Karna in Shri Krishna and even today I receive appreciation for the character from the audiences. The role shaped me into a completely different person and holds a huge value in my life. Apart from that, the films I did shape my career immensely and I received a lot of appreciation and love from the audience.
