Ranjnigangha movie review: This heart aching story of a father-daughter is worth watching

Director: Pritesh Kumar Srivastava
Cast: Rajesh Sharma, Veebha Anand, Taranjit Kaur, Ashok Pathak and others
Ratings: 4 stars

Director Pritesh Kumar Srivastava brings an unusual complex tale of a father-daughter relationship. Rajnigandha is disturbing and plays on your mind for a long time. The film revolves around a father and his repentance for his bitter past.

Muneer (Rajesh Sharma) runs away to Gulf leaving behind his wife Shabnam and 5-year old daughter Nazia aka Gudia. He returns after years only to know that Nazia is now an arrogant prostitute in a popular red light area. What happens next forms the cruz of the story.

Kudos to the creator Abhishek Saxena of Ambi.Abhi Productions for creating this unique world, alongside producers Atul Dwivedi of Metro Cinemas & Surender Suneja of Eagle Home Entertainment for believing it in this heart-aching story and making it possible for director Pritesh and writer Shaheen Iqbal. The writer has beautifully penned a complex story of relationships at the backdrop of prostitution.

However, Bollywood has seen many similar stories in the past touching this sensitive topic, but Rajnigandha has it’s own pace, flavour and essence. The film is brilliantly shot by ace cinematographer Simarjit Singh Suman and editor Rohit Mhatre’s crisp job with the runtime 1:09 minutes is apt for a film like this.

Rajesh Sharma steals the show for sure. He hones the whole film on his shoulder. He slips into the character of Muneer with so much ease. His pain of a helpless father seeking forgiveness is evident. Veebha as Nazia is gorgeous, responsible and manages to impress with her dialogue deliveries as a prostitute. Taranjit Kaur and Ashok Pathak are good too.

If you are up for a sensitive yet hard hitting film, do watch Rajnigandha, streaming on MX Player.
