Garvita Sadhwani Brings a Strong Female Action Character to Punjabi Cinema With The Great Punjab Robbery
Actress Garvita Sadhwani has made her Punjabi cinema debut with The Great Punjab Robbery, and one of the biggest highlights of her performance is her portrayal of a woman who is right at the centre of the action. Playing Ishreen Kaur, also known by her secret name Charger, Garvita steps into a space that is still relatively rare for female actors.
The Great Punjab Robbery revolves around three robbers with unusual names who seize an ordinary bank in Punjab. There are no demands and no ransom. Instead, the police receive a series of cryptic riddles, with each one taking them deeper into the mystery. What begins as a robbery soon turns into a deadly mind game.
Directed and written by Saurabh Varma, The Great Punjab Robbery stars Raj Kundra alongside Payal Rajput and Garvita Sadhwani. The film gives Garvita the opportunity to step into a full-fledged action-oriented role as Ishreen Kaur, also known as Charger. Her character is a small-town girl who decides to rob a bank and joins Stapler and Bouncer, while keeping the reason behind her decision a mystery. With Garvita taking on action sequences and playing a character who is brave, tough and confident, the film gives her a chance to explore the space of an action heroine in her Punjabi debut.
What makes Garvita’s role particularly interesting is that Ishreen is not merely a female character placed alongside the male robbers. She is actively involved in the action and carries the confidence of someone who is willing to take risks herself.
Full-fledged action roles for female actors remain relatively uncommon, especially when the character is expected to be physically involved in the story rather than simply being part of the supporting cast. Garvita embraces that challenge with confidence.
Her portrayal gives Charger both physical strength and emotional depth, making her more than just an action character. With the film already released and receiving strong reviews, Garvita’s debut stands out as an exciting introduction to Punjabi audiences and showcases her as an actress who is ready to take on action-oriented roles.
