Mumbai, August 05, 2026: Truth, as it turns out, can really set you free. Quite literally, in the case of Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa, Netflix’s captive reality show that has kept audiences hooked since day one. After six weeks of emotional confessions, chargesheets, explosive confrontations, shifting dynamics and unforgettable redemption arcs, Netflix and Balaji Telefilms’ record-breaking captive reality phenomenon Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa has found its winner. Inmate Shreya Kalra emerged victorious after surviving the season’s toughest tasks, relentless scrutiny and ever-changing dynamics, proving that authenticity was her greatest strength. From entering the Lock Upp as one person to walking out owning her truth, Shreya’s journey resonated with audiences across the country, ultimately earning her the title.
What began as a captive reality format quickly transformed into one of the most talked about shows in India, an obsession perhaps. Premiering as a five-day-a-week series on June 27, Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa became an unprecedented success, expanding first to six days and ultimately streaming every day of the week as audiences demanded more. Within just three weeks, the series crossed 50 million viewing hours, while conversations around the show exploded across social media, generating over 3.3 Billion social media views and 5 Million Conversations on the internet to date.
More than just a hit series, Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa became a cultural phenomenon. Sixteen inmates – Ram Kapoor, Shivangi Joshi, Dheeraj Dhoopar, Harshad Chopda, Shilpa Shinde, Sunita Ahuja, Pamala Serena, Madhuri Grover, Shresta Iyer, Akanksha Chamola, Akanksha Chaudhary, Yogesh Rawat, Sufi Motiwala, Shreya Kalra, Varun Yadav and Riyaz Aly – entered Lock Upp with one goal. Their one-liners became internet catchphrases; their rivalries fuelled endless debates, and every chargesheet, confession and eviction dominated timelines.
Both Riteish Deshmukh and Farah Khan were exceptional in managing these inmates and their tantrums. From being their friend, to calling them out and mentoring them at every stage, the two jailers made their presence felt and added immense value to the show.
Ultimately, one inmate proved her mettle and lifted the winner’s trophy. Shreya Kalra said, “The experience in Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa has changed me forever. I didn’t come here to be perfect, I came here to be real. Being authentic has made me the winner today, and this is the proudest moment of my life. People called me loud, controversial and difficult, but I never stopped being myself. This trophy belongs to everyone who’s ever been judged for speaking their truth out loud. Thank you to everyone who believed in me. This is only the beginning. I’m incredibly grateful to Netflix and Ekta ma’am for giving me a platform to share my true self with audiences around the world.”
Monika Shergil, Vice-President Content, Netflix India said, “For six weeks straight, Lock Upp: Sach Yaa Saza has been the most talked-about shows in India. The show and its inmates have built passionate fandoms, becoming a daily ritual and a shared cultural conversation for millions of viewers. From social media feeds to dinner-table debates, water cooler catch ups in offices, audiences have been passionately involved in every friendship, every conflict, and every twist, proving they couldn’t get enough of the drama inside the Lock Upp.
At the heart of this social experiment was the relevance of the core idea of owning your truth and standing for who you are! This brought out an authenticity that audiences loved and they cheered as all our amazing inmates powered their way through the toughest and the most memorable situations in this lock up. Congratulations to Shreya Kalra on winning the very first season. She embodied the spirit of owning her truth through every situation in the show and her journey has resonated with audiences deeply. Together with our partners at Balaji Telefilms Ltd., we’re incredibly proud to have backed a homegrown reality format that has been India’s obsession for the last 6 weeks. It captured the imagination of viewers and sparked conversations every single day.”
Creator Ektaa Kapoor added, “It’s not easy to survive in a format like Lock Upp. Every day it tests your patience, your courage and your ability to stay true to yourself when the entire world is watching. The audience has witnessed every high, every low and every moment of growth, which is why this victory feels completely earned. Shreya walked into the Lock Upp as one person and walked out owning her truth like a Boss. That’s what this show has always been about – not perfection, but honesty. Congratulations to Shreya, to our incredible finalists and all the inmates for making this an unforgettable season.”
