Actor turned Restaurateur Raj Kalra talks about his latest restaurant Sardaarji Haveli in Andheri!
Actor turned restaurateur Raj Kalra is deeply passionate about food, and his journey into the hospitality industry reflects this love. Within a short span, he has carved a niche for himself, and his next dream project, Sardaarji Haveli, with partners Micky patel and Rita Naik, is set to open in the heart of Mumbai’s suburbs.
Sharing his journey, Raj says, “This decision was purely dil se. Growing up in a Punjabi household, the kitchen was our adda, and my mother’s magical dishes made me fall in love with food. Wahi ghar ka swaad is what I want to bring to others—but with the elegance of a fine-dining experience.” He adds, “Hospitality just feels right—it lets me connect with people, share authentic Punjabi flavors, and serve food that pleases both the stomach and the soul.”
Raj continues, “I’ve always had a love for food, and I can assure you, there’s no Punjabi in this world who doesn’t love food! So here I am, creating my own brand. And what better than a Punjabi food brand that truly reflects my passion—Sardaarji Haveli!
Raj’s first venture was a small outlet in Juhu, near Novotel. He recalls, “When I showed it to my brothers, they asked, ‘Are you sure?’ I said, ‘Mujhe apne aap ko test karna hai.’ They replied, ‘We believe in you, just go for it.’ That confidence pushed me forward. The success of that outlet led to opening a bigger one, and with time, I expanded to other cities and malls.”
Talking about his newest venture, Sardaarji Haveli, Raj shares, “I started with a small outlet in Lokhandwala, which gained a huge fan following. The love and demand for our food encouraged me to take the next step and create a grand version—Sardaarji Haveli. It’s a place where people can feel the true essence of Punjab, right here in Mumbai. My motto is simple: Authentic Punjabi khana? Toh chalo Sardaarji Haveli!”
When it comes to the restaurant’s decor, Raj says, “I wanted to create more than just a dining spot; I wanted to offer an experience. Sardaarji Haveli reflects that vision—vibrant, warm, and immersed in Punjabi culture. With Bhangra Nights, Ghazal Nights, and live singing, we aim to give our guests more than just food. It’s about celebrating Punjabi food, music, and tradition.”
As for his vision for the next five years, Raj shares, “I wish to be the best. When people think of authentic Punjabi food, I want Sardaarji Haveli to be the first name that comes to mind. While I get many franchise offers, I only move forward with those who share the same passion and respect for food. I want to grow with people who love the art of serving pure, authentic food.” Raj Kalra acted in TV show Amrit Manthan and now having a career ni the hospitality industry.
