Rafoo Chakkar (1975) – 2:00 PM, 3rd September
Rafoo Chakkar is a comedy that has remained a favourite for decades, for a story that is loved for its clever plot and standout performances that were exceptionally nuanced. Directed by Narender Bedi, the film stars Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh with their on-screen chemistry that simply sets the stage on fire. The plot, which was inspired by the 1959 American movie ‘Some Like It Hot’, follows two men who disguise themselves as women to escape from a gang, which eventually leads to a comedy of errors. Rishi Kapoor’s role as Ranjit, who finds himself in one comical mess after another, puts his best foot forward with his charm and humour. The music, especially the song ‘Kisi Pe Dil Agar Aa Jaye To’ by Kalyanji-Anandji, fits with the film’s upbeat and chaotic tone. Additionally, Asrani’s performance as Kanhaiyalal Chaturvedi was also recognized, earning him a nomination for the Filmfare Best Comedian Award in 1976.
Do Premee (1980) – 5:00 PM, 3rd September and 2:00 PM, 4th September
Do Premee will trick you into thinking that it is a love story and surprise you when you least expect it. While it starts with the love story of Chetan and Payal, played by Rishi Kapoor and Moushumi Chatterjee, who profess their love for each other, you would realise that it is just the beginning of what’s in store for them. The two must navigate the challenges posed by societal expectations and family objections to merely be with each other. Directed by Raj Khosla, this film captures the innocence and intensity of young love, with Rishi and Moushumi delivering performances that feel genuine and deeply moving. Their chemistry on screen is emotional to witness which makes the audience truly root for their love. The soundtrack by Laxmikant-Pyarelal, especially the song ‘Pyar Kar, Pyar Kar,’ remains popular even today, hinting at the love audiences have for vintage classics. Do Premee is a classic example of the kind of romantic dramas, with an unexpected twist, that ruled Bollywood’s 1980s era.
Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan (1978) – 8:00 PM, 3rd September

Rishi Kapoor stars alongside Moushumi Chatterjee and Ashok Kumar in this film which delves into the struggles of a family trying to hold on to their values in a changing world. Rishi Kapoor’s portrayal of Vishal, a young man caught between his love for Shalini and his duty towards his family, however, he must choose for that choice could alter the events of the future. Vishal, while trying his best to meet the expectations of his father, may lose it all. Will he succumb to pressures or rise to the occasion and conquer his obstacles? The film’s music by Laxmikant-Pyarelal, includes songs like ‘Duniya Mein Sab Se Haseen,’ keeping the tone of the story emotional yet soothing. Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan is a beautiful exploration of love, duty, and the challenges one faces while navigating family conjectures.

The chart-topping song ‘John Jani Janardhan,’ sung by Mohammed Rafi, is particularly famous for its star-studded cameo appearances, featuring Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna, Waheeda Rehman, and many more. This song, shot at R.K. Studios over a week, became a legendary moment in Bollywood history, with even Raj Kapoor playing an integral role in its making. The film’s legacy extended beyond Hindi cinema, as it was later remade in Tamil as Sandhippu (1983) and in Telugu as Trimurtulu (1987). Additionally, Hema Malini’s performance earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her mesmerising portrayal of Asha.
