“Bishen is satisfied with whatever he has”: Sooraj Thapar speaks about his character in Sony SAB’s ‘Badall Pe Paon Hai’
Sony SAB’s new show ‘Badall Pe Paon Hai’ follows the journey of Baani (Amandeep Sidhu), a young and spirited girl who dares to dream big despite her limited financial means. She firmly believes that while God may have given her less, there’s no harm in striving for more to lead a better life. On the other hand, the Khanna family, headed by Bishan Khanna (Sooraj Thapar), believes in being content with what they have.
Being overwhelmed by the positive response from fans regarding the Khanna family dynamics, the seasoned actor shared his thoughts on the theme of Badall Pe Paon Hai, the impactful story it brings to the audience and the love he’s received by fans.
Can you share some insights into your character Bishan Khanna in Badall Pe Paon Hai? What attracted you to this role?
It is tough to find a person who is completely satisfied because we have something or the other which keeps disturbing us. We always want to achieve something bigger and always run after things. However, Bishan Khanna is a person who is satisfied with whatever he has in his life and it is very rare to find such people these days. This is what excited me about the character the most.
What characteristics of Bishan do you relate to the most?
Bishan’s trait of always trying to be positive is something I relate to. Being positive in life is very important as if one just cribs about what we don’t have, they will never be happy. So, Bishan wants to be happy in life. He likes to solve problems and doesn’t take them very seriously knowing that it will spoil their present and future. In my own life, I too try to stay happy, positive and stress-free. It is important to be content with whatever you have.
Bishan seems to have a strong bond with his family, especially with his son Rajat. Can you elaborate on the dynamics of their relationship and the Khanna Family?
Bishan is a very helpful, loving and down-to-earth character. He tries to help everybody whether it’s in the kitchen – peeling and cutting vegetables or helping his daughter Aastha in her beauty parlor with the clients or repairing the broken water bottles for the kids. For Bishan, his family means the world to him. He has 4 kids, two sons and two daughters and he loves them unconditionally. It will be very interesting to explore the character further as the story moves on. There are many layers of the character the audience will get to see as we go ahead.
You have moved to Chandigarh for the shooting of the show. What challenges did you face in bringing Bishan Khanna to life and shooting in another city?
Doing a show in another city, away from your house and the people you love is a very courageous step and a difficult one. I keep missing my family but I try to keep myself busy with work. Then on the days I am not shooting, I do something else, like watch films and read books, pursue hobbies. At the end of the day, I try and enjoy my job. I keep experimenting and take up new challenges in life. That’s very important.
Can you share any interesting anecdotes or moments from the set while filming?
In the beginning, when the character is being formed, I get very serious. I do get jitters as we as actors have to make it look more realistic these days for it to be authentic. However, it is a lot of fun to shoot the Khanna family scenes. There was a scene where a client came to Aastha’s parlor wearing a mask. I had no dialogue in the scene. The director told me to dry her mask and so I improvised the scene with expressions and a few dialogues to add fun elements and make it entertaining. The directors have created a very healthy atmosphere on set, we all eat together, snatching each other’s food. It’s always a treat and we all are very cordial with each other.
Finally, what excites you the most about being a part of Badall Pe Paon Hai, and why should viewers tune in to watch the show?
What excites me most about Badall Pe Paon Hai is the family, the characters and my character, Bishan. It’s a lot of fun. And it will be more interesting as the story progresses when Baani comes to the Khanna house as their daughter-in-law. Viewers should watch the show because it is a very inspirational story and it provides us with two different viewpoints that people have. Baani will express the idea of working hard to go ahead and reach new heights while the Khanna family will emphasize the importance of being content with whatever you have in life. If the audience sees the show for just one week, they will get attached to it. The feedback we are getting for our family scenes is that people are liking it a lot. I hope the audience will continue to watch and shower their love on the show.
