Hum Toh Mohabbat Karega- 23rd June
This 2000’s thriller comedy starring Karisma Kapoor alongside Bobby Deol in lead roles is sure to keep you hooked to your screens. The movie drew inspiration from the 1981 American film Eyewitness and its rights are now owned by Red Chillies Entertainment. Deol plays Raju, a waiter in a luxury hotel and Karisma plays Geeta, a glamorous news anchor staying at the same hotel. Raju is drawn in by Geeta’s demeanor and they soon fall in love. When a mysterious death strikes at the hotel, it’s up to Geeta and Raju to unravel a web of lies to find the killer before time runs out. Karisma’s performance as the sharp and witty news anchor is the highlight of the film. It is also backed by an incredible supporting cast of Johnny Lever and Maleeka Ghai. With a fun soundtrack developed by Anu Malik, Hum Toh Mohabbat Karega is the perfect watch to kickstart the iconic Kapoor’s birthday.
Mere Jeevan Saathi- 24th June
Mere Jeevan Saathi, a romantic drama film was released in 2006 and audiences saw Karisma Kapoor in a brand new role, Natasha, a cunning negative lead who is obsessed with Vicky, an aspiring singer, played by Akshay Kumar. Vicky, who is trying to chase fame crosses paths with Natasha, heir to a big music company, but Natasha’s love is unrequited as Vicky is in love with someone else. This melancholic tale of love, betrayal all tied together with a thrilling soundtrack sung by the likes of Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. With a surprise appearance by Ameesha Patel and an eclectic mix of vintage outfits, the movie is the pinnacle of 2000’s fashion and cinema that makes it a must-watch this week.
Ajay- 25th June
Karisma Kapoor plays an innocent, educated and headstrong girl named Manorama whose rich uncles want her to marry into an equally wealthy and educated family. Manorama however falls in love with a poor poultry dealer named Ajay, played by Sunny Deol. The film includes a strong supporting cast of Reena Roy, Farida Jalal and Mohnish Behl and was celebrated for its memorable songs like ‘Chamak Chhallo’ and ‘Chaand Sa Chehra’ by Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu. This romantic family drama is a perfect watch during the rains packed with the perfect mix of action and drama.
Andaz Apna Apna- 26th June
This iconic comedy of errors may not have found its audience in the 90’s but is now a cult classic that has won hearts all over the country. The plot follows two gold diggers played by Aamir Khan and Salman Khan. The two plan to woo the daughters of a rich businessman, played by Karisma Kapoor and Raveena Tandon who swap their identities to fool the boys. Unknown to the girls, their father’s business rival has sent his henchmen disguised as servants in their house. The multistarrer combines elements of crime, identity disguise, Shakti Kapoor and Paresh Rawal’s impeccable comic timing and iconic dialogues like ‘Teja main hu. Mark idhar hai’. The movie set new standards for comedy films and is still a comfort movie we find ourselves going back to.
Aatish- 27th June
Aatish: Feel The Fire released in 1994 is a multi starrer action thriller starring Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor. The film is Bollywood director Sanjay Gupta’s debut directorial and is inspired by the Amitabh Bachchan classic Deewar. It follows two crime lords who take in an orphan named Nawab and educate him to become a police inspector. Nawab is thrown into an intense emotional dilemma as his first assignment is to arrest the crime lords who raised him. Karisma Kapoor plays Pooja Nawab’s love interest in the movie and helps him overcome his problems and inspires him to fight for what’s right. With a catchy soundtrack and well choreographed fight scenes, makes it a fun watch to end your tiring day.
Jagruti – 28th June
Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor return to the screen for another exciting film, paired with an incredible soundtrack and dance sequences. Karisma Kapoor plays Shalu who is in love with Jugnu, a rebellious man who was adopted by a forest tribe as a kid. Jugnu’s sole purpose in life is to exact revenge from the evil men who killed his older brother Vishal. This riveting tale directed by Suresh Krishna is filled with action scenes, adoration and revenge which makes it an inspiring watch that is sure to stick with you for a long time.
