Siya received good reviews however the film didn’t reach as many viewers as it should have. Why do you think is that?
Because bitter truth is hard to digest. And it is not easy to question politically inclined authorities for getting justice for a woman. That would be my straightforward answer. The movie, Siya, fights for a cause that often makes Indians uncomfortable until they are in the victim’s shoes. A predominant portion of the viewers only prefer entertainment in the name of Indian cinema. However, we must realise that cinema is the reflection of society and society is not just about entertainment. It deals with several sensitive issues. And cinema should certainly reflect that part too.
The film, however, received good reviews. It didn’t reach as many viewers as it should have. There could be various reasons for this, such as competition from other releases, or the subject matter being sensitive and not appealing to a wide audience. It’s unfortunate when a deserving film doesn’t reach its intended viewership, but sometimes these factors are beyond our control.

Now that the film is releasing on ZEE5, what are you hoping to achieve out of it?
Now that the film is releasing on ZEE5, I hope it can reach a larger audience and create more awareness about the issues it addresses. The digital platform provides a wider reach and accessibility. Also, OTT is more flexible and open to accepting challenging, critical and sensitive content. There have been instances earlier where movies dealing with sensitive and off beat content have not been a Box Office hit but have garnered huge appeal and appreciation on OTT. So I hope that more people will have the opportunity to watch Siya and engage with its important themes on OTT.

With so much content out there, why should people invest their time in watching Siya?
Siya offers a unique perspective on the reality of crimes against women and the challenges faced by survivors. It is a thought-provoking film that aims to shed light on these issues and initiate conversations about the need for justice and societal change. By investing their time in watching Siya, viewers can gain a deeper understanding of these issues and contribute to a more empathetic and compassionate society. We have a tendency to not act upon such issues unless we, ourselves, face something similar, first hand. This perception should change and films like Siya can usher that change.
