“There are lot of similarities between me and my character ” says Vaishnavi Prajapati playing the role of Charu on COLORS’ Durga Aur Charu

Q. Tell us something about the show.
A. Taking the legacy ahead of ‘Barrister Babu’, ‘Durga Aur Charu’ showcases the story of Anirudh and Bondita’s daughters, Durga (younger) and Charu (elder). At a very young age, the two sisters who face a devastating blow with the passing of their parents are eventually separated. This traumatising incident takes a toll on Durga, and she grows up to be a shy and meek girl unlike her mother. She is raised by her grandparents Binoy and Sampoorna in the Roy Chowdhary mansion. Her elder sister, Charu is raised by street performers, Banke and Bholi. She has grown to be a fearless girl just like her mother Bondita. While both the sisters aspire to become barristers, they’re oblivious to each other’s existence. Will they know that they’re sisters and unite?

Q. Tell us something about your character?
A. I am playing the role of Charu, the elder daughter of Anirudh and Bondita and Durga’s sister. Charu is very confident and street-smart. After the death of her parents, she is separated from her sister and brought up by street performers Banke and Bholi. Despite many challenges, Charu is driven by her passion to pursue law. She lives her life by her principles and morals and never hesitates to stand against what’s wrong. Unlike her sister Durga, she is just as fierce and outspoken as her mother, Bondita.

Q. Why did you choose to be a part of the show?
A. ‘Barrister Babu’ has been a great success on television and has a huge fan base. ‘Durga Aur Charu’ is a big opportunity for me. I am aware of the love and affection people have for ‘Barrister Babu’. Considering it all, I chose ‘Durga Aur Charu’ as a great chance for me to explore acting.

Q. How have you been balancing your studies and work?
A. I study when I get breaks on the shoot and while traveling to the set. The production and everyone else from the crew have been very supportive. I get timely breaks, so that I can also focus my studies. I often have my parents on the set, and they ensure that there is no lag in my academics. I also attend online classes often to keep up with my studies.

Q. How is your equation with your co-actors?
A. I share a great bond with all the actors on the set. I’m surrounded by experienced actors who are patient with my performance and guide me in acing its nuances. There are other actors of my age on the set and it’s fun to play, act and study with them. I love Priti Ma’am and share a strong bond with her.,

Q. Any special preparation you did for your character?
A. I watched ‘Barrister Babu’ as a part of my preparations. It helped me understand the backstory of ‘Durga Aur Charu’ and the characters of the show. I also worked on my dialect since being brought up by street performers Charu’s way of speaking is different.

Q. What are your ambitions in life?
A. I want to continue being an actor and I’m figuring out what else I want to do in my life. As of now, I’m just going with the flow. I really love Madhuri Dixit and wish to meet her someday. I wish to become an actress like her. All I know for now is that whatever I do either i dancing or acting or anything else, I will give it my best.

Q. What is your message to the viewers?
A. ‘Durga Aur Charu’ is a heartfelt story of two sisters who get separated at a very young age and their journey of finding each other. I hope that the show gets love and blessings from the viewers.

Q. What are the similarities between you and your character?
A. There are lot of similarities between me and my character Charu. I relate a lot with her. She is a happy go lucky brave and confident girl just like me. I think we all should be brave enough to tackle different situations in life. I am carefree and so is Charu. I am someone who believes in ‘living in the moment’. I have always been this way, straight forward and someone with a never give up attitude. I am loving this experience and hope viewers also shower their immense love on us.
