Playing the role of Nusrat in Tanaav was challenging….Sukhmani Sadana
The Tanaav trailer has got every fan of Israeli series Fauda excited as they will soon get to see an Indian adaptation of the political thriller in the backdrop of Kashmir. Actress-writer Sukhmani Sadana plays a key role in the series and she shares that it was tough to play Nusrat in the Sudhir Mishra directorial.
Sukhmani was excited on being approached for this role. “I had a Zoom meeting with Sudhir (Mishra) sir when I was in Amritsar. We had many rounds of readings and auditions until finally I was locked. I still remember the audition that I gave during Covid. My father helped me tape it. It was a tough one as I had to be a very somber, ‘grey’ shade woman. But eventually when I got the show, me and my dad both celebrated.
Fauda being one of her favourite shows, Sukhmani was thrilled to land a part in its Indian adaptation. “I just couldn’t imagine that I would be playing the character of Nusrat in the Indian adaptation,” she says. “Applause has been one of my favourite people to work with. Every since I first worked with them – I wrote Udan Patolas and also acted in it. I am also writing another show for them right now- their values and creativity are top notch. I have a lot of respect for all sitting there. And Sachin Sir and Sudhir sir of course are a delight to learn from. Sudhir Sir is an institution on his own”.
Tanaav was both a fun and a learning experience for Sukhmani. Recalling her time with the ensemble cast, Sukhmani says, “When I got to know the cast of Tanaav I was beyond impressed because every actor was so talented in their own way. It was a privilege for me to work with them. When we shot in Kashmir, it was a great vibe. We became friendly, like one big family. I learnt so much from all my co-actors like Manav, Arbaaz, Amit. They taught me team work, the art and craft of acting. It’s been a beautiful journey and now I am keeping my fingers crossed that everyone enjoys the show as much as we enjoyed making it”.
Tanaav premieres on SonyLIV on November 11.
