Faruk Kabir helmed the LGBTQIA+ movement in Bollywood with 377 AbNormal

Fans and members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community have been gung-ho about Bollywood finally hitting the nail on the head about the portrayal of the community. Badhaai Do was a gem in setting the tone right for all that goes on behind-the-scenes of a lavender marriage and the struggles that lead to it.

Yet another gem in Bollywood that got the narrative right was the 2019 film 377 AbNormal. A Faruk Kabir directorial, 377 AbNormal perfectly captured the story of five petitioners who challenged Section 377, marking the beginning of a new era for the community at large.

Inspired by true events, it was this movement that led to the historic judgment in 2009 that legalised a consensual homosexual relationship between adults.
