“With 5 camera set-up, a day of shoot feels like a day of one-acts” says Ojas Rawal from Sargam Ki Sadhe Satii
Ojas Rawal who is currently seen playing the role of Aastik Awasthi is Sony Entertainment Television’s recently launched sitcom; Sargam Ki Sadhe Satii is a well known theatre artist.
Apart from doing multiple films in Gujarati cinema, he is also known for his roles in Gujarati plays. Aastik Kumar Awasthi is a modern-day brahmachari who is very obedient and is a Hanuman follower who plans on never getting married and constantly maintains a significant distance from women. Aastik follows an app called, ‘Duniya Saari Brahmachari’ to know the ways to remain celibate and preaches the same among his brothers.
The show Sargam Ki Sadhe Satii is shot on a 5-camera set up where all shots are being captured simultaneously as all the cameras are rolling together unlike, a master set-up which is followed by its respective cuts of close-ups, two-shots, etc. Having worked in theatre the 5-camera setup seems to be quite helpful to Ojas Rawal as compared to other actors in the show. He is actually applying his learnings and knowledge from the theatre’s set-up in the show Sargam Ki Sadhe Satii.
Ojas Rawal while talking about the camera set-up of the show says, “Sargam Ki Sadhe Satii is being shot on a 5-camera setup and it has been excellent. I’ve previously experienced this format but only in theatre. The best thing about such a multi-cam setup is the speed of shooting increases multi fold. So, shooting a scene feels like performing a one-act in theatre. All actors have to deliver their best while reacting continuously to each other. We have to be cautious that we ought to act attentively and constantly as there is the minimal-to-nil scope of a safety close-up or a re-take later, just like in theatre.”
He further shares, ” Here, my training and learnings from plays have proved to be a blessing! We rehearse the scenes just like we would for a theatrical play and then we shoot it in one-go with the 5-cam setup. For me, a day of shoot feels like a day of one-acts!”
