After success of Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Maara’, here are some of the most successful remakes and adaptations of Malayalam films; Must watch!
Maara, starring R Madhavan and Shraddha Srinath premiered on Amazon Prime Video on 8th January 2021. Audiences are raving over the beautiful adaptation and are lauding the film for all its aspects ans cinematic experience. In a world where stories are told in different languages through cinema, remakes and adaptations are either a hit or a miss and these films completely hit it out of the park when it comes to story adaptation from their Malayalam originals.
- Drishyam, a film that released is 2015 is a remake of the Malayalam film ‘Drishyam’ that released in 2013. The gripping storyline, twists and climax steal the blockbuster hit show. Audiences had no time to blink eyes while watching this film and a bull’s eye attempt at remaking. The original was directed by Jeethu Joseph with Mohanlal and Meena in the lead roles.
- Bhool Bhulaiyaa- A 2007 bollywood film starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan in lead roles is a remake of the Malayalam film ‘Manichitrathazhu’ that hit the screens in 1993. Recieved acclamation from audiences and critics alike for stirring the perfect horror comedy.
- Maara- A new year release on Amazon Prime Video, that is an adaptation of Charlie, a Malayalam film that released in 2015. The romantic drama is garnering great reviews from all over 240 countries and territories after its release on Amazon Prime Video. A successful adaptation that was delivered in a reimagined way. Maara stars R Madhavan, Shraddha Srinath in lead roles, and is said to be ‘unique’ than Charlie. Maara also became the first hit film of 2021!
- Bodyguard – A 2011 film starring Salman Khan in a romantic action comedy written and co-directed by Siddique. It is a remake of director’s own 2010 Malayalam film of the same name. The film went on being a big box office hit and having mind-blowing collections. Another successful remake with the same person on the director’s chair that implied his vision.
These films leave an impression on cinema screens that will be untainted for eons to come. Setting a benchmark with such cinema, we are now on the lookout for more such successful remakes and adaptations. It’s a tricky business but some have managed to sail through where Maara totally became the favourite of 2021 and a hit for the audiences and critics, alike. It can easily be hailed as the most awaited film of the year where R Madhavan came back to romance genre with the romantic musical drama.
