Actress Donal Bisht: “AI Is a Blessing, But Fake Reality Is a Growing Concern”
Actress Donal Bisht, admired for her stellar performances in Tu Zakhm Hai and now being considered for Bollywood projects like Laal Singh Chaddha and Ramayana, recently spoke about one of today’s most pressing issues — the rise of AI-generated fake content and its misuse online.
Discussing the advantages of technology, Donal said, “I think AI coming into the picture is a very good thing — it is a boon to society. So many things have become simple because of AI. Tasks that once took hours or even days can now be done in seconds. AI is very helpful in terms of business; office work has become much easier.”
Yet, she also expressed concerns about its dangers. “On social media, fake videos and pictures are everywhere. Even my mother sometimes asks me — when did you wear this dress or where is this photo from? The general public often can’t tell what’s real and what’s fake,” Donal explained. She added, “The line between real and fake is blurring. The more AI-generated fake content we see, the more reality will fade.”
Highlighting the need for regulation, she said, “There should be a government watermark to identify AI-generated content. Most people don’t understand technology — they can’t distinguish reality from illusion. This can be dangerous, especially for women.”
Referencing high-profile cases, Donal said, “Even celebrities like Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan had to go to the Supreme Court to protect their images, but ordinary people don’t know what to do.”
She also warned about scams, stating, “Those with criminal intent can misuse AI to cheat or manipulate people. Strong monitoring and government intervention are needed, because we don’t know how far this could go.”
Concluding, Donal cautioned, “If this continues, in the next five to ten years, the line between reality and illusion may completely disappear.”
