Debchandrima Singh Roy opens up about learning Hindi speaking from co-stars Nia Sharma and Zyan Ibad Khan

After making waves in Kolkata’s entertainment industry, Debchandrima Singha Roy landed her Hindi television debut with COLORS’ fantasy thriller romance, ‘Suhagan Chudail’. Her move of switching gears from Bangla to Hindi proved fruitful as she is garnering a lot of love for stepping into the lead role of Deeya. She is seen embodying a courageous young woman determined to rescue her love, Moksh (played by Zayn Ibad Khan), from the clutches of an immortality-seeking chudail named Nishigandha (portrayed by Nia Sharma). The show follows Deeya’s relentless battle against the enchantress, who seeks eternal life by marrying and sacrificing 16 husbands through the ominous ritual of ‘Solah Shringaars.’ With Moksh as her 16th target, Deeya wages a war to shatter the supernatural siren’s spell and save her beloved.
Taking us behind the scenes of her foray in Hindi television, the debutante opens up about breaking the language barrier for her role as Deeya. Although landing the part in the fantasy show was a dream come true, it came with its own set of challenges for the gorgeous actor. Hailing from a Bengali background, the actor was tasked with mastering the intricacies of a new language – Hindi. Undeterred by hurdles just like her character, Debchandrima threw herself into linguistic training, leaving no stone unturned in her quest for fluency.

While speaking of her Hindi learning experience,
Debchandrima shares, “Taking on the role of Deeya in Suhagan Chudail has been an incredible and immensely rewarding journey, but one that came with its own set of hurdles. As a Bengali actor, I dealt with the challenge of not just embodying Deeya but mastering an entirely new language – Hindi. From the moment I got this opportunity, I am trying my best to master in Hindi speaking. I devoured books, watched videos, rehearsed my dialogues tirelessly, and leaned heavily on the guidance of my talented co-stars. Zayn Ibad Khan and Nia Sharma were absolute rockstars in this process. Even now, I make it a point to read and re-read my lines until the words flow as naturally as if Hindi were my mother tongue. It feels wonderful to have the Hindi audience commend my fluency in the language. I hope they’ll give me as much love as my Bengali fans have over the years. At the end of the day, this whole language learning experience just proves that when you’re passionate about something, you can make the impossible happen.”

Keep watching ‘Suhagan Chudail’ from Monday to Friday at 10:30 PM, only on COLORS.
